The Issue

I've lived in Sharon, Pennsylvania for five generations, and I'm strongly opposed to the construction of a data center just five blocks from my home. This project is already disrupting our lives—even before full-scale construction begins. My neighborhood has experienced recurring water and electricity cuts due to the preliminary testing phase of this project. This isn't just an inconvenience; it's a significant concern for our community's health and well-being. Our once clear water is now brown, posing potentially serious health risks. We are already seeing the detrimental effects on our infrastructure, and the data center isn't even operational yet.

Our community faces dire environmental consequences if this data center is built. Data centers are known to consume enormous amounts of resources and contribute to significant pollution. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, heavy industrial activities like this can severely impact local air and water quality. Sharon’s fragile ecosystem simply can't sustain these pressures.

Moreover, data centers are notorious for their noise pollution and high energy consumption, which are likely to negatively impact neighborhood living conditions. It's concerning not only for current residents but also for future generations. According to the National Resources Defense Council, data centers currently consume about 2% of the world's electricity, a figure that will likely rise if we continue allowing construction like this.

We have a responsibility to protect our community from this unwelcome environmental threat. As residents committed to maintaining Sharon’s legacy, we urge local government bodies to reconsider the location of this data center. By choosing a site far from residential neighborhoods, we can balance technological progress with environmental stewardship and public health.

Join us in halting the development of the data center in Sharon. Your support can make a significant influence in preserving our community. Please sign this petition to encourage our decision-makers to act in the best interest of Sharon’s residents and environment. Together, we can protect our homes and our future.
