Stop the Construction of the Chevron Gas Station at Westmoor Drive and West Airport Blvd.

Stop the Construction of the Chevron Gas Station at Westmoor Drive and West Airport Blvd.
The Issue
As a resident of the beautiful neighborhood of Aliana, I've always relished the peaceful surroundings and close-knit community we've managed to create and sustain. However, the proposed construction of the Chevron Gas Station at the intersection of Westmoor Drive and West Airport Boulevard in Richmond, Texas threatens the harmony and environmental stability of our community.
- Environmental and Health Concerns: Gas stations are associated with potential risks of soil and groundwater contamination, as well as air pollution from fuel emissions. These pollutants can pose serious health risks to residents, particularly vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, who make up a large part of our community. Considering how close this station is planned for residential communities, these risks shouldn't be underestimated.
- Children's Playground: The largest playground is within 300-400 feet from the proposed Chevron Gas Station. This puts our children at risk being that alcohol and tobacco will be sold at this store.
- TABC Permit: The gas station is also within 300 feet of the nearest home and TABC's permit does NOT allow for a gas station to be built within 300 feet of any residence.
- Traffic and Safety Issues: The proposed location already experiences heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours. The addition of a gas station could worsen congestion and increase the likelihood of accidents at this busy intersection, impacting both drivers and pedestrians. Building this station in our residential area not only places a burden on our environment but also on the community's tranquility. The increased traffic, noise, and visual distraction disrupts our peaceful community feel, something we've worked hard to maintain over the years.
- Oversaturation of Gas Stations in the Area: Richmond already has multiple gas station within a short distance from this site. Adding another station could lead to oversaturation, detracting from the neighborhoods character and the potential for other, more beneficial businesses that serve the community's needs.
- Property Values and Neighborhood Appel: Our community has worked hard to foster a welcoming environment with high property values. The presence of yet another gas station could negatively impact property values and discourage new residents and families from moving to the area.
Therefore, we urge the authorities to reconsider the construction of the Chevron Gas Station at Westmoor Drive and West Airport Boulevard in Richmond, Texas. Protect our community's environmental quality, peace, and tranquility by putting a halt to this construction. Please, sign this petition and stand with us against this potential disruption to our beloved neighborhood.
Thank you for considering our concerns. I would be happy to discuss this issue further and to provide additional information if needed.
Sincerely,
Kristina
