🚨 IMPORTANT MEETING UPDATE & UPCOMING EVENTS
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Howell Township Board meeting, initially scheduled for Monday, November 10, has changed. The Township Board meeting is now on Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 PM at the Howell High School Auditorium.
There are now 3 critical data center meetings the week of November 17-21. Your attendance is important at all of these meetings:
November 18 at 6:30 PM - Howell Township Planning Commission Meeting
(Howell Township Hall - 3525 Byron Rd)
November 19 at 6:30 PM - Livingston County Planning Commission Meeting
AGENDA ITEM: Data Center Text Amendment & Rezoning
November 20 at 6:30 PM - Howell Township Board Meeting
AGENDA ITEM: Data Center Moratorium
Our message at all of these meetings is simple and consistent. Whether we are standing in front of the Planning Commission or the Board, our request is the same: We want a 6-month moratorium on all data center zoning application reviews and approvals to provide crucial time to review/revise our local ordinances and consult with independent experts as to the impact of data center development on our community.
This is not a monumental ask. A moratorium is the bare minimum. It is the ONLY responsible and ethical decision the Township can make at this time.
Note: Planning Commissions are recommending bodies. While they cannot enact a moratorium themselves, they can make a formal recommendation of a moratorium to the Township Board. That is what we are requesting they do at the planning commission meetings.
Please attend EVERY meeting that you can feasibly attend the week of November 17-21. We cannot afford to sit these meetings out! We must show up in numbers and continue to demonstrate the overwhelming opposition to the project and to unregulated data center development in our community.
If you haven't already, please join the Stop the Data Centers - Livingston County Facebook group to stay informed as we approach these meetings. I will also try to continue posting updates and next actions here.
Thank you for your continued commitment and for fighting for our community!
