The Issue

Our beloved community in Rome, Georgia is under threat from the planned construction of new data centers. These developments pose serious risks to our natural resources and the well-being of our residents, particularly our children. Our city relies on its natural resources, and the introduction of data centers will drain these invaluable assets, potentially leading to a strain on local utilities and a negative impact on the environment.

The proposed locations for these data centers are alarmingly close to our schools. The constant noise generated by these facilities can create significant distractions and disrupt the learning environment that is essential for our children’s education and development. The promise of economic benefit should not outweigh the importance of a conducive and peaceful setting for our young learners.

It is deeply concerning that acres of our local land are being stripped without adherence to the mandatory 80-day hearings. This not only undermines trust in our local government’s adherence to due process but also poses an irreversible threat to our wildlife. These actions risk destroying habitats and disrupting the balance of our local ecosystem.

The future of our city should not be clouded by the unchecked expansion of data centers at the expense of our community’s integrity and environmental stewardship. We must call upon our local government to reconsider and thoroughly evaluate the consequences of these developments.

We urge the authorities to halt the current plans for data center construction immediately, prioritize community hearings, and ensure any future development respectfully incorporates environmental regulations and safeguards for our children’s education.

Join me in standing up for Rome's natural resources, our children's educational environment, and the preservation of our community’s integrity. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and protect the Rome we cherish.
