The Issue

The beautiful state of Alabama is one of North America's most ecologically diverse regions. However, the construction of data centers threatens to undermine this biodiversity, as their development would require the clearing of trees, plants, and native habitats impacting native species. This would result in the active destruction of our ecosystem over time. Alabamians may have their differences, but on this matter, we stand united—we do not want data centers to be built in our state.

Our wildlife and environment are central to our identity and way of life. They aren't just resources to be exploited; they are treasures to be preserved for future generations. The very thought of sacrificing Alabama's natural beauty and ecological balance for industrial gain is intolerable to many of us.

Moreover, data centers use vast amounts of electricity and water, which can contribute to resource scarcity in the long term. According to industry reports, a single data center can consume as much electricity as a small town, further increasing our carbon footprint and not to mention, Alabama residents will be responsible for footing that bill, as we all know Alabama Power will tack this onto our ever increasing power bills and the lack of care Alabama government has for this issue.

There are alternative locations for these data centers that are less damaging to our environment. We call upon state legislators and local government officials to explore these alternative sites that won't compromise Alabama’s natural assets.

Let's protect Alabama's vibrant ecosystems and preserve the rich biodiversity that makes our state unique. Sign this petition to raise awareness of Alabamians’ opposition to data centers and to demand action from local authorities. Together, we can ensure that Alabama remains a place where nature thrives alongside human progress. Please help us continue living up to our name, Alabama the Beautiful, by signing this petition.
