Stop the Construction of Calhoun Apartments next to Primeros Pasos Early Learning Center!

The Issue

The plans to build an apartment complex next to Primeros Pasos early learning center in Georgetown, DE, are concerning. The proposed entrance location is right in front of a bus stop, posing a potential safety risk to the children who attend the center and live on the road. The risk is not merely hypothetical. Not only would there be a safety risks with children crossing the street, but studies have found that high-density housing can sometimes lead to an increase in local crime rates (source: The National Bureau of Economic Research). This raises the fear among parents and teachers alike that potential criminals could be living in such close proximity to our children. Also - this area is already burdened with excessive traffic, leading to lengthy commute times simply to Rt. 9. Also - a lot of children in this area play in or near the street and more cars could worsen the situation, exposing our children to increased danger.

We need our elected officials to prioritize the safety of our children above the desire for more housing complexes. Act now, support our initiative to keep the Primeros Pasos neighborhood safe. Please sign the petition to oppose the apartment complex construction.
