The Issue

Living and raising our families in Finney County, Kansas, we have built our lives around farming. For generations, agriculture has been our way of life, our livelihood, and the legacy we wish to pass on to our children. Unfortunately, this deeply rooted tradition is under threat by the proposed construction of a large data center in our area.

This data center, while promising technological advancement, clashes with the agricultural environment that defines Finney County. The level of water consumption required for such a facility poses an alarming threat to our already delicate water resources. Our lands are arid, and we have long relied on sustainable farming practices to make the best use of our limited water supply. Introducing a water-intensive data center into this fragile balance could spell disaster for our fields,  and livestock.

Furthermore, the construction and operation of such a facility could lead to unforeseen consequences on our ecosystem. It may affect soil health, air quality, and bring about noise pollution, which could disturb the peace of our community. The potential for infrastructural changes, such as increased traffic and alterations in land use, adds to our concerns.

A change of this magnitude demands thorough assessment and consideration of the long-term impact on our environment and community. We propose a comprehensive study into alternative locations for the data center, where it could operate without directly competing with agricultural resources.

We urge local authorities and stakeholders to look towards sustainable and viable solutions that coexist harmoniously with our environment and community values. Finney County's farmlands are not only our bread and butter; they symbolize a cherished way of life, an identity that should not be compromised.

Please join us in urging decision-makers to protect our agricultural heritage and prevent the construction of this data center in Finney County, Kansas. Sign this petition to ensure that our future generations can inherit a thriving, sustainable agricultural community.
