Stop the College of Republicans.
The Issue
The University of Utah College Republicans took a photo of a student who made a joke about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The student asked them to delete the photo and not post it. Unfortunately, their Vice-president, Rylie, ended up posting the photo online which garnered a lot of attention, recently getting 6.3 million views on X.
The post has encouraged users to promote hate speech including doxxing the student which led to their: Address being leaked and having photos being taken of; campus profile being shared online; socials being exposed, leaving the student having to delete several of their accounts; parents' LinkedIn and businesses also being exposed. Because of the Vice-Presidents actions, the student isn’t safe to be on campus for the time being, and their family is having to undergo additional stress from threats that from Rylie's post and these online users are promoting.
The College of Republicans has a history of their members being, and posting discriminatory content on social media. Including several reposts of homophobic, transphobic, xenophobia and islamophobia content. And trying to harass students on campus, and antagonizing them by doxxing them.
The University of Utah is one of the most diverse places in the state of Utah. It is a campus that encourages students and visitors alike to be open-minded, respectful, and courteous to contrasting opinions. Rylie has violated these morals that campus stands for by defaming and twisting a narrative, just because she can’t take a small joke that contrasts her political ideology. The College of Republicans have supported their Vice-President actions and continues to encourage members to follow a procedure similar . Members of this organization needs to learn that not everything revolves around themselves, and that in life—there will be times where one needs to be uncomfortable, and to deal with it. I find it unfair that they keep getting away with it. It’s time we put a stop to this organization.
I demand that the College of Republicans gets held accountable for their actions. Each student who has felt victimized, (including the most recent incident involving a student and their loved ones) deserve an apology from the College for irreversible damage caused by offensive conduct.
Hopefully this petition can get enough signatures for the College of Republicans to be investigated, and held accountable. May justice be served.
