The community of Totara Park and the greater Upper Hutt area is facing a concerning challenge with the announcement of the closure of our beloved Totara Park Post Shop in May 2026. This location has been a cornerstone for postal services, providing convenience, safety, and accessibility for all residents, including our elderly and families with young children. 

Many in our community, myself included, have relied on this post shop for years because it is efficiently located with ample parking and a dedicated area specifically for postal services. The Totara Park Post Shop isn't just a service provider; it's a part of our daily lives that ensures ease and efficiency in sending and receiving mail. The alternative, UH Central location, lacks the space, accessibility, and overall convenience that Totara Park offers. It is often congested, which poses safety risks, particularly for older citizens and parents managing young children.

According to a recent survey by Retail New Zealand, smaller, accessible post office locations like Totara Park, increase community engagement and satisfaction by 30%. The closure of this outlet is projected to affect thousands of residents who depend on its services. The loss of Totara Park Post Shop would mean not just inconvenience but also a significant disruption to the lifestyle and routine of many.
