Unfortunately, plans are underway to replace this beloved lagoon pool with another soft play area. This decision threatens to deprive our children of a unique recreational opportunity and essential water safety skills. While soft play provides social and physical benefits, it cannot substitute the multi-faceted experience that swimming offers—especially considering another soft play area is already being developed nearby by Showcase cinema.

The lagoon pool serves as a safe haven where parents can introduce their children to the water, teach them to swim, and help them develop a lifelong love of swimming. Water safety is not just a skill; it is a critical life-saving competence that every child should have the opportunity to gain. Drowning is a real danger and knowing how to swim reduces this risk sharply. According to the Royal Life Saving Society UK, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in children. We cannot afford to diminish opportunities for our children to learn how to stay safe in water.

Moreover, this facility is a rare community asset that provides inclusive recreation for families who may not be able to afford private swimming lessons or memberships at exclusive clubs. Removing the lagoon pool would disproportionately affect those who rely on it the most.
