The Issue

Growing up in the picturesque town of Dunedin, Florida, there’s been a constant in my life: the Dunedin Causeway beach launching. It's more than just a location for us. It's a place intertwined with memories of fishing trips, sunset views, and family gatherings by the water. But now, our access to this cherished spot, which has been available since 1960, is under threat.

The local authorities are considering a decision to take away beach launching from Dunedin Causeway; this must not happen. Currently, the Causeway provides vital access for countless residents and visitors who rely on it for boat launching. While there are two other boat ramps available in the area, the demand for these is overwhelming, especially on weekends. If you’re not there by 5 AM, you’re unlikely to find a parking spot, which only intensifies the competition and reduces fair access for many.

This closure not only affects boaters but the entire community who enjoy recreational activities and contribute to the local economy through tourism. We cannot lose such an invaluable aspect of our community heritage. Instead of taking away our beach launching, we should focus on enhancing facilities to accommodate everyone without stripping away a part of our town's history.

The loss of the Dunedin Causeway beach launching would mean losing a piece of what makes our town so unique and special in the state of Florida. We must come together to protect our rights and preserve our longstanding traditions. With other ramp options already stretched to their limits, removing access at the Causeway would leave us with insufficient facilities to serve our community effectively.

Let's unite to keep the Dunedin Causeway open to beach launching. Please sign this petition to show local authorities how critical this resource is to our community and demand they take action to find better solutions to manage the increasing demand for boating facilities. Together, we can make our voices heard and protect what matters most to our community.
