Stop the closure of AMH Promote

Stop the closure of AMH Promote
The Issue
AMH Promote is a training centre in North Down, Northern Ireland which has provided training and support for over 50 adults with learning difficulties from 2008.
Due to funding issues AMH (Action Mental Health) has taken the decision to return their contract to the SEHSCT (South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust) and close the centre on the 31st March 2024, meaning the over 50 adults who regularly attend the training centre will have no support. And with limited Social Work capacity and limited capacity at other similar facilities within the SEHSCT this is going to cause major disruption to the lives of over 50 clients and their families. Many of whom have been attending AHM promote for many years since they left the education system. The centre provides an opportunity for some of the most vulnerable adults in our society to meet together, learn and socialise where they are safe and happy. With this training and support being provided through specially trained staff who are dedicated to the clients and their families. There is also no other appropriate facilities that can match those of AMH Promote to meet the needs of the clients and their families in the surrounding area.
The information regarding this unfortunate closure was communicated with to the families through an email with no regard to the situation which this places them in.
With the centre due to close on the 31st March 2024 and no clear explanation or reason behind the closure, we are petitioning to stop this closure of a much needed support for those who attend. If this centre closes there will be no support for the over 50 clients which are some of the most vulnerable in our society and potentially impacting the wider families employment.
