Stop the closing of Hospice in the Weald Children's Services
The Issue
Our family relies immensely on the remarkable services provided by the Hospice in the Weald Children's Services. They have been an invaluable source of support in our lives, offering assistance in our home with essential tasks like bathing, feeding, massaging, crafting, and more. Their help with administering medications, has given us the freedom to carry out everyday activities like food shopping, knowing our child's needs are being expertly managed at home.
Additionally, this service fosters a sense of community and belonging through fully inclusive sensory parties at Christmas and summer. These events bring together families like ours, allowing parents who understand the complexities of living with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to connect, share experiences, and offer mutual support. The invaluable respite care provided by the hospice gives much-needed breaks to parents and carers, who often face overwhelming responsibilities.
Due to increasing costs, there are plans to close this essential service. This decision comes in the wake of already losing support from Demelza Children's Hospice and other charities such as Chestnut, and leaves us and many other families without critical support.
The Hospice in the Weald Children's Services caters to the needs of families dealing with complex, life-limiting, and life-threatening conditions. Their work is crucial, offering not just physical but also emotional and social support, ensuring a better quality of life and dignity for the children and families they serve. According to the charity, their services have supported over 200 families in the region, a testament to the profound impact they have on lives.
We understand that funding challenges exist, but closing this service is not the solution. Instead, we urge stakeholders to explore alternative avenues for funding, partnerships with local businesses, or crowd-sourced initiatives that could plug financial gaps. The community has always rallied around this cause, and we believe that, together, we can find solutions to keep Hospice in the Weald's Children's Service open.
We ask that Kent County Council, and the government step in to support these charities - who are offering a vital service because it isn't covered by the NHS.
By signing this petition, you become a voice for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Your support can help save a lifeline for many families. We plead for your support to prevent the closing of Hospice in the Weald Children's Services. Please, sign this petition and show that we stand united in protecting those most vulnerable in our community.
