Stop the city’s fines

The Issue

Welcome.
I am here to help a member of the Safety Harbor Community who needs our help!

The city has been harassing him and threatening him with $250 a day fines for the condition of the property he owns located at 660 Pine St SH. He has cleaned up the property substantially but the legal threats keep coming. He’s an elderly gentleman and is very kind. You may know him as the scrap guy who drive around the city in his truck and open trailer picking up big items residents are throwing away. And he repairs them, repurposes them and scraps un needed metal. He keeps our neighborhoods nice and neat and helps people obtain appliances they would otherwise not be able to afford. He helped a young homeless family with two children. And I feel the city should stop trying to take his home and stop imposing fines to bury him out of a home in a city his bloodline has been in for generations.
I will also briefly mention the home across the street from 660 Pine St is a small residential home with no medical staff and just a female homeowner operating a group home for adults with mental illness and disabilities. There was a stabbing incident at that home by a group home resident to the homeowner in 2020 or 2021. I had an opportunity on several occasions while visiting 660 Pine st to purchase a car the family staying on his property had to get rid of to interact with many of the group homes residents as they would approach us and ask for a cigarette or a $1 or 2 or to use a phone, these people were often off their meds by self affirming that fact and not well. I can spot the residents from a mile away wondering up and down MLK that our elementary school is on going to and from the store. There is no business license to the address of the ‘group home’ that I could find. It’s a small residential home with 7-9 adults all living in it. Right on a residential street where people enjoy the outdoors, still sit in front porches and watch their children and grandchildren play and you have people wandering around who are not of sound mind and it’s scary, why does the city allow this but this gentleman across the street can’t use his own property to fix things for a good cause while keeping our neighborhoods clean of debris??? Please consider signing this petition to stop the city dragging this on for years until he runs out of money and can no longer fight. Thank you!
