Save Del Paso ParkSacramento, CA, United States
Mar 19, 2023

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your interest in our updates regarding Del Paso Park and the City of Sacramento’s lack of concern for the community surrounding it. As many of you are aware of, this park has a 25 year history of little maintenance and no program investment. The portion of park that is the furthest away from the city of Sacramento is the Del Paso Park east of Watt Avenue.

This 80+ acre piece of property is a public asset- that for decades has been ignored and unmaintained by the City of Sacramento. It is “a park too far” from those who control it.

As long as we, the community surrounding the park, are quiet about these issues it sends the message to all involved that we have accepted the status quo of living near a neglected city park- and things will continue on just the same.

What we want, however, is for the County to take this area over and create active and passive recreation opportunities for the surrounding neighborhoods. With proper maintenance, investment and concern for the community surrounding it, this park could be so much more than it is right now!

But we must act now to stop the further deterioration of natural resources and make our case for better management of the park. The time has finally come for the entire Board of Supervisors to hear directly from a large group of us! If you are unhappy with the way the City is managing the park, then here’s what you can do to help:

****Mark your calendar for Tuesday March 28, at 9:30 AM to join us in person at the Board of Supervisors meeting.*******

Meeting Location

County Administration Center
700 H Street, Board Chambers (Room 1450)
Sacramento, CA 95814

This will be our opportunity to share (up to two minutes per speaker) public testimony on how having a piece of city land running through our community is, has, and will continue to be a problem. Even if you don’t feel comfortable going up and speaking at the podium, we encourage you to write a letter explaining your position and/ or just be physically present there to show your support for this effort!!

REMEMBER: the first and most important step is just showing up and being present- this lets the BOS see that there is enough community interest and support for the message of the speakers for steps toward change to start to be made!

There is strength in numbers…the more of us that show up to provide an “in-person constituent statement of interest”, the better our concerns will be noticed, heard, and taken into consideration.

Please pass the word along- share this update and invitation with neighbors and businesses in our community.

Thanks for reading and we will keep you updated - we look forward to seeing you soon.

Save Del Paso Park!  Stop the City of Sacramento’s neglect and mismanagement of natural resources.
