Stop the CILEX Change of Regulators to SRA Proposal!

Stop the CILEX Change of Regulators to SRA Proposal!
The Issue
We, the concerned members of the legal profession and supporters of CILEX (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives), strongly oppose the proposal by the current board on the change in regulators from CILEX Regulation to Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). This petition aims to express our dissatisfaction with this proposal and urge decision-makers to reconsider their plans.
1. Unfair Impact on Diversity:
CILEX has been a champion for diversity within the legal profession, providing opportunities for individuals from non-traditional backgrounds. The proposed change would undermine these efforts by subjecting CILEX members to regulations primarily designed for solicitors, potentially limiting access and progression for those who have chosen an alternative route into law.
2. Threatening Independence:
CILEX's independence as a regulator has allowed it to focus on its unique membership needs effectively. By shifting regulatory control to SRA, there is a risk that this distinctiveness will be diluted or lost entirely. This could lead to reduced support and representation for CILEX members, hindering their professional development.
3. Costly Transition Process:
The transition process from one regulator to another is not only time-consuming but also financially burdensome. Members will have to bear additional costs associated with adapting their practices and complying with new regulations imposed by SRA. This unnecessary financial strain may deter many talented individuals from pursuing a career through CILEX.
4. Lack of Consultation:
The decision-making process behind this proposal lacks transparency and consultation with key stakeholders - namely, the dedicated professionals who are directly affected by it - CILEX members themselves! It is crucial that any changes in regulation are made after thorough discussions involving all relevant parties.
5. Inadequate Justification:
The proponents of this change have failed thus far in providing compelling reasons why such a shift in regulators is necessary or beneficial for both CILEX members and the legal profession as a whole. Without clear justifications, this proposal appears arbitrary and potentially detrimental to the interests of CILEX members.
We call upon the decision-makers responsible for this proposal to listen to our concerns and reconsider their plans. We urge them to prioritize diversity, independence, consultation, and cost-effectiveness in their decision-making process.
Sign this petition now to make your voice heard! Let's ensure that CILEX remains an inclusive and effective regulator that continues to support its members' professional growth without unnecessary disruptions or compromises.
Together, we can protect the integrity of CILEX and safeguard the future of a diverse legal profession!
[Please note: The AGM takes place on October 4th at 9.30am online. Don't miss out on this opportunity to have your say!]
