Why this petition matters

Started by Emily Cameron

The 93/93A bus route is an essential service that travels along the Solway coast, going through 17 villages on its journey back to the city of Carlisle. With its limited bus hours, the service is indispensable to a wide variety of people and becomes increasingly popular in the warmer months, particularly due to the Hadrian’s Wall walkers and the holidaymakers from the Cottage & Glendale caravan site. The service provides hundreds of people with the freedom to travel, which is crucial to those who are vulnerable due to age and/or disability. The 93 also allows people to pursue work both in and out of Carlisle, as many (such as myself) rely on it for this purpose.

Rumours have been confirmed that the 93 service is being axed in June this year, which will leave hundreds of people isolated. The impact of this will result in local businesses losing essential custom, which has already been detered due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. The 93 service also provides accessibility to the doctors surgery in the village of Kirkbride and the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. Without this, people will be discouraged from accessing the vital healthcare that they need. This is crucial, especially for the older and/or disabled customers who are unable to use their own mode of transport.

The aim of this petition is to help prevent Stagecoach from axing the route. If enough complaints are sent to their customer service team, we are hopeful that they will rethink their decision. The news of the cancellation has worried many people, some even considering leaving their homes and communities to move into Carlisle for better accessibility, despite living in these villages for years.

Please help us save our 93, any contribution to the cause is appreciated immensely.
