The Issue

Today Gloucestershire’s County Council cabinet will be deciding to approve a letter to the government that requests a postponement of the county council elections in May so they can rush ahead to securing a devolution deal that doesn’t exist.

Throughout the country, other County Councils will be doing the same

The Future of our districts, our parishes, towns, and our county are at stake.

It will take at least 3 years to reorganise Councils, and 4 to ensure everything is in place

No matter what political allegiance, every Councilor has a duty and a right to scrutinise and examine every step towards any Reform of Local Government.

The Public has a right to consultation and to have an input into any future proposed reform

The Public have a right to express their views at the ballot box

Throughout Britain, it has been County Councils that have continually failed the public, with failings on our roads, our social care, and a lack of local investment in schools and youth facilities.

The Public must have a say on who leads the reform of councils that provide them with crucial services.

This postponement is about protecting failed councils' positions for one last payday and must opposed for the sake of our democracy
