The Issue

Growing up in Halton Village, I have cherished every moment spent in this picturesque community. It’s where my family and I call home. But now, faced with the proposition of constructing 80 new houses, I am deeply worried about the future of our beloved village. This is not just a fight against new housing but a cry to preserve the character and sustainability of our home.

Halton Village, while quaint and charming, is already stretched to its limits. Our local resources are overburdened—our school is oversubscribed, meaning children might have to travel further for their education. Our local GP is overwhelmed, unable to accommodate more patients without a significant decline in service quality. These challenges reflect a wider pattern seen across many small villages, where rapid expansion can lead to deterioration in everyone’s quality of life.

Moreover, this housing project threatens the natural beauty around us. The proposed site for these constructions is on green land that has been a haven for wildlife and a sanctuary of peace for us residents. Converting this space into a residential area not only risks destroying habitats for countless species but also diminishes the natural allure that draws people to our village.

These concerns are not just personal grievances—they echo a crucial point that development must be sustainable. It’s imperative to consider whether the infrastructure in place can genuinely support such dramatic expansions. Before we consider bringing more people into the village, substantial investment in infrastructure, expansion of school facilities, and improvements to health services must occur to maintain, not erode, the quality of life here.

We must advocate for responsible development that respects both human and environmental needs. There are alternatives to mass development on our green land such as exploring brownfield sites or investing in appropriate infrastructure before considering such drastic developments.

I urge you to sign this petition to show Halton Village Planning Committee that our community deserves thoughtful and sustainable planning. Together, we can preserve the charm and integrity of our village for future generations. Please sign and help save Halton!
