Governor Pritzker has stated he’ll attempt to force the BUILD Plan through the legislature in the veto session after the election. This plan takes away local control for planning and zoning in every community in Illinois. It would allow the construction of apartment complexes in single family subdivisions, and permit housing structures to be built in backyards without the water, sewer, and parking infrastructure to accommodate these additional units. Additionally, it removes the public’s right to speak on these developments at local board meetings.
