Stop the Build Once Again Rockdale
The Issue
Hello Rockdale community. Here we go again with the unwanted rezoning of a property that we had denied 3 times already. We need to join together once again in large numbers in opposition of case # 2024-522, the rezoning of 2660 Old Salem Rd, Conyers GA 30013 from the current R-1 Agricultural zoning to CRS High Density housing. The builder is suggesting a plan to build 90 homes on 55 acres. However, we know that once it becomes rezoned, 90 can quickly become 160 because of the low size requirements of CRS allowing for 10.000 sq ft lots from the current 30,000 sq. ft. R-1 lot size. As we expressed in the past, the location of this property would have a negative impact to traffic on Old Salem Rd. as well as a likely overcrowding of the schools. These same points were some of the many previous concerns and the application was denied by all six of the Planning and Development board members and 2 of the 3 on the BOC. While the builders are interested in maximizing their profit and the county is to gain more tax dollars, the citizens are the most negatively affected and will receive absolutely no benefit from this plan. If you don’t believe this, just look at your most recent property tax bill or think about it while sitting in traffic at exit 82 or 84. Better yet, talk to the students or parents that have a firsthand experience in the school system. The builders have been allowed to meet a very low standard to get approval as per the county’s poor guidelines. We cannot stand for any more careless growth. Healthy growth can’t just make dollars without making sense and that’s where we are lacking in Rockdale County. With your support we were able to stop this property rezoning 3 times before. Unfortunately, the county has a problem with standing up to these developers that are consistently preying on our county creating the change they want with no regards to the citizens. But we as a people and as tax paying residents of Rockdale County must continue to fight for what we want.
