🚨 Stop the Boy/Girl Racers on the A6 Before Someone is Killed 🚨

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Wixams and the surrounding villages, call on Bedford Borough Council to work with Bedfordshire Police to urgently address the dangerous driving blighting the A6.

The A6 is not a racetrack.

Yet, every weekend reckless drivers, weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people up, tailgating, and speeding,  are turning it into a danger zone. They drive like they’re in a Formula 1 race, showing zero concern for anyone else on the road.

This behaviour is not just irritating, it’s life-threatening. Many of these drivers seem to have no idea how to handle their cars if something goes wrong. Worse still, their mentality suggests that if they did cause an accident, they might simply drive off.

We’ve had enough.

We refuse to wait for a serious injury or another fatality before action is taken.

We demand immediate action.

We demand that Bedford Borough Council:

  1. Work with Bedfordshire Police to apply for a High Court Injunction banning dangerous cruising, racing, and related antisocial driving behaviours on the A6.
  2.  Introduce a local bylaw to target and      penalise repeat offenders, particularly young “boy racer” and “girl racer” groups who use the A6 as a performance strip.
  3. Enforce these measures through intelligence-led policing, unmarked vehicle patrols, and collaboration with neighbouring councils where the A6 crosses boundaries.
  4. Run a public awareness campaign making it clear that breaches of an injunction or bylaw will result in heavy fines, vehicle seizure, and possible imprisonment.

The A6 should be a safe route for drivers, passengers, and not a playground for dangerous drivers showing off.

Every day that passes without change is another day we gamble with lives.

We call on Bedford Borough Council, Bedfordshire Police, and our local MP’s to act now.

Sign this petition and share it,  let’s make our roads safe before someone pays the ultimate price again.

How many people will it take to either be seriously or fatally injured before something is done.
