The Issue

Bell is trying to build 6 AI data centers across Canada for the Bell AI fabric project. Having one in Regina can seriously impact our environment, and overall harm our city.
some examples of ways it’ll harm Regina:

Large data centers consume around 5 million gallons of water daily, which is the same amount a town of 50,000 people use, which is close to a quarter of Regina. This means we will have less water for agriculture, which our province relies on for economy.
In the USA, 159 areas have high water stress due to data centers.

AI uses a lot of fossil fuels and energy, meaning our electricity bills will cost higher. In Abilene, Texas, a town about 60% larger than Regina, had an AI data centre built and their bills went up from 245$ Canadian a month, to about 307$ Canadian a month.

The rezoning application claims to help things like universities and healthcare, and AI is already being used in healthcare clinics within our community. They are using AI instead of typing out notes by hand or using medical transcriptionists, as well as it is being used for “problem-solving,” relying on AI for healthcare may lead to improper diagnosis, as limited data can create unreliable information rather than a patient having their needs personally met.

One of the data centers will be located in the field near Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Regina, SK.

By signing this petition, you’re helping the data center not get built and having the land kept for farming and agriculture.
