Hunted down by a moving helicopter this near term mare in foal aborted while fleeing. She would most likely have fallen, exhausted after many minutes up to 9, of pursuit, terrified by the sound of the high decibel helicopters chasing her, she would have galloped with the rest of her mob, the brave stallion no doubt trying to save his mob.
The aborted foal was it shot? If not, and if living, it will be eaten alive by predators, foxes, cats and dingoes. The National Standard Operating Procedures oppose any activities during foaling season, yet National Parks and Wildlife Services taken their own actions despite it being foaling season!
After stumbling, the mare may have taken a shot to the neck, the back, the side in the guts and why she involuntarily aborted. Would the foal have been shot?
We will never know because these shootings are taking place under tree canopies where the helicopters cannot land to undertake mandatory inspections. There are countless brumbies like this mare and foal being exposed to barbaric cruelty and this must stop now.
The stallions will take back shots, or neck shots, a clean head shot on fleeing brumbies is impossible. They fall and are left almost certainly dying a long drawn out death of pain and suffering.
This must STOP now. The Park is closed in Kosci National Park for "feral pest" control. Brumbies will be shot if not now "down the track".
Please write today to Penny Sharpe, it is her portfolio, her decision that these abhorrent shootings continue. She must produce an uptodate count to prove there are no less than 3,000 brumbies in the Park, avoid a breach of the management plan and Legislation.
Please act today. Call or write to Penny Sharpe demand any further shooting of brumbies stop now and that a population count to PROVE there are 3,000 across the retention zones. We believe there are much less than 3,000 brumbies surviving in the whole of KNP.
Any greater than 3,000 brumbies should be trapped for rehoming to approved rehomers only.
