The cruel killing of the entire mob of about 100 Bogong Brumbies, a total of 500 Brumbies in Kosciousko National Park and upwards of 100 in Barmah Wetlands, unknown numbers in the Eastern Alps of Victoria, is a chilling fact for all animal lovers.
Most Brumbies will have suffered a cruel and painful death whether shot from a moving helicopter, or from the ground. Brumbies are gentle sentient creatures, forming strong family bonds and develop friends within their mobs.
In New South Wales Introduction by NPWS of a Standard Operating Procedure 2023 in an attempt to remove the benefit of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to avoid prosecution for cruelty, is being assessed. There is no doubt, many Brumbies will have suffered a cruel and painful death.
In Victoria, Parks Victoria shot the entire surviving 100 Bogong Brumbies, yet have failed to trap any Brumbies during 2022 and 2023 despite the 2021 Management Plan giving priority to rehoming. There are approved rehomers, yet Parks Victoria have moved forward to vary the Management Plan, without consultation.
The New Year is fast approaching, we hope for a greater united effort by all to stop the cruel carnage and save mobs of wild living Brumbies for future generations.

Please support a fundraiser by Rocky Harvey and biostatistician Claire Galea, crowdfunding for an independent count of wild horses in the Kosciusko National Park (KNP), using better techniques to achieve far higher accuracy and open accountability. Every dollar donated will be a step toward a proper count of Brumbies.
