Legal proceedings commenced by the Snowy Mountain Brumby Sustainability and Management Group Incorporated were heard in the Land and Environment Court New South Wales yesterday 9 July 2020.
Justice Duggan reserved her decision until next week, unless Judgment is delivered before then, so the Group and the Brumby Community of Australia have another wait in front of us.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) gave an undertaking to the Court, they will not commence trapping horses until next Friday... that is, if the judgement is in their favour.
If NPWS are successful in deflecting the Application it will be a shocking and sickening outcome for Brumby Populations in Kosi National Park because NPWS have the intention of mustering 4,000 Brumbies many of which are destined for knackeries, if that happens.
We can only hope the duly appointed Community Advisory Panel appointed under the NSW Legislation can swing into action and recommend alternatives after a proper numbers count has been achieved, and before any sickening events take place.
Of significant concern is the lack of an independent numbers count in any part of the Park as there is no doubt Brumby mobs perished in the wildfires of 2019, plus the methodology used by National Parks and Wildlife Services is blatantly flawed and numbers are unsupported by Brumby supporters.
An urgent numbers count must be undertaken before any action.
We wish to ensure Victorian Brumbies are protected from shooting and removal to knackeries. Please sign the ePetition for Legislation being tabled in the Upper House of Victorian Parliament by MP Wendy Lovell, presently scheduled for 4 August 2020. The Link is below.
Please share this Petition widely.
