Stop the Ban on Mobile Phones in Indiana Schools

Stop the Ban on Mobile Phones in Indiana Schools
The Issue
I am a resident of Lawrenceburg, IN, USA and this issue is personal to me. The state of Indiana is banning mobile phones in schools and I literally need my phone. It's not just about staying connected with friends or browsing social media; it's about having access to resources for learning, emergency contact with family, and even mental health support.
Mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives today. A study by Pew Research Center shows that 95% of teens have access to a smartphone, and 45% say they are online 'almost constantly'. This demonstrates the importance of mobile phones in the daily lives of students.
Banning them outright from schools can lead to negative consequences such as hindering communication between parents and children during emergencies or limiting students' ability to research quickly for classwork or homework.
We understand that there may be concerns about distractions during class time. However, rather than banning them completely, we propose implementing policies that regulate phone usage during school hours instead.
This petition aims at urging the Indiana State Government to reconsider their decision on banning mobile phones in schools. We believe there are better ways to manage potential distractions without depriving students from this essential tool in today's digital age.
Please sign this petition if you agree that we should stop the ban on mobile phones in Indiana schools.
