Stop the atrocities in Myanmar

Stop the atrocities in Myanmar
The Issue
In February, 2021, a military coup ousted the civilian leader, Aun San Suu Kyi, and ended eleven years of relatively stable democracy in Myanmar. Since then, as reported in this recent New York Times story, more than 2,000 civilians have been killed and nearly 16,000 arrested. Hundreds of thousands more have been displaced from ethnic villages where opponents to the regime are suspected to be hiding. According to Amnesty International's petition, protests by an estimated million civilians have only been met with bloody reprisals.
This week (Sunday, October 23, 2022) saw the deadliest attack yet, killing at least 80 people in an air raid strike in the village of Hpakan, Kachin state.
So far, there has been very little response to hold the regime accountable, beyond expressions of concern such as this joint ambassadorial statement in response to the Kachin bombing.
Please sign this petition, and join Amnesty International in urging governments around the world as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the UN General Assembly and Security Council, and corporations investing in Myanmar, to apply the utmost diplomatic pressure to the ruling junta. This pressure should specify financial sanctions such as a global arms embargo and a ban on the sales of aviation fuel. Without such action, and while global eyes are focused primarily on Ukraine, Myanmar's military government is encouraged to continue its brutal crackdown with impunity.
