The Issue

Our family has cherished the quiet life in Jessamine County, Kentucky, treasuring the open pastures and serene landscapes that stretch across 18 acres of horse farm land off 169 between Harrodsburg Road/68 and Nicholasville Road/27. Unfortunately, this sanctuary is at risk of being transformed into a subdivision, fundamentally altering the countryside we hold dear.

The proposed annexation change threatens not only our way of life but also public safety. This stretch of country road is already perilous, lacking shoulders and witnessing a rising number of accidents. Imagine how much more dangerous it could become with increased traffic. If a car stalls or an accident occurs, it will result in complete gridlock because there is simply no room to maneuver. Traffic during rush hour already backs up more than 2 miles, making it almost impossible to exit existing subdivisions. Keene road is in excess of 10,000 vehicles a day which twice what it was made for. (Less than 5,000)

Furthermore, our infrastructure is under strain. Our sewer system is stretched to its limits, contributing to frequent flooding on this road and the adjacent subdivisions. Three of our schools are at capacity. WJHS EJHS and Brookside. Due to overcrowding in our schools, students are forced to share lockers and endure bus rides that exceed an hour in duration. To address the escalating student population, we are resorting to hiring educators without formal teaching credentials. The introduction of even more homes would exacerbate these problems. Our community is not equipped to handle the additional burden of a new subdivision.

Additionally, we must consider the welfare of the horses, who already face dangers on the road. They deserve a tranquil environment, free from the noise pollution of rumble tracks that a new development would greatly increase.

Preserving the character and safety of our community is of utmost importance. We urge the Nicholasville Commissioner's office to reconsider the proposed annexation of county land into the city of Nicholasville and to prioritize the safety, infrastructure, and wellbeing of current residents and wildlife.

Please join us in protecting our home and our heritage. Let us send a clear message to those in charge that we say no to this annexation. Sign this petition to keep Nicholasville the community we love.
