The Issue

*****EDITED TO ADD: There is a hearing to be held on Tuesday 10/14 at 11:30am, it has been moved from the Meade Co court house to the FAIRGROUNDS! please try and be in attendance. Any documents you plan to bring needs to be presented PRIOR to the hearing and you must have 10 copies! The construction of an AI data center at 25025 Joe Prather HWY Ekron, Kentucky 40117 poses a real threat to the health and environment of our beloved community. This isn't just about a building; it's about ensuring that our right to a safe and healthy living environment is respected and preserved.

Our community members, especially those residing close to the proposed site, are at risk of facing significant environmental and health impacts. Data centers, massive facilities consuming large amounts of energy, often lead to increased pollution and environmental degradation. Noise pollution, potential contamination of local lands and water sources, and air quality diminution are just some of the adverse effects. Ekron, a town known for its tranquility and natural beauty, should not have to bear the burden of industrial stress and potential harm that could arise from this development.

Moreover, studies have shown that the byproducts of data centers, such as heat emissions and waste management issues, can have long-lasting effects on local ecosystems and human health. An increase in traffic and noise levels can disturb our everyday lives and affect the mental well-being of our residents.

This proposal is not just unsustainable for our environment but echoes a lack of consideration for the community's voice and well-being. We must prioritize the health of our people and the preservation of our lands over industrial pursuits. There are other locations better suited for development, locations that do not jeopardize community health and the environment.

We urge local government authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency, and all relevant stakeholders to reconsider and ultimately halt the proposed construction. Your action is crucial in helping avert the irreversible consequences this project may bring.

Stand with us in protecting our community’s health and environment. We call upon your support to stop the construction of this AI data center. Please sign this petition to make your voice heard and protect Ekron's future.

Trey Webb
Meade County Magistrate - District 6
Thank you for sharing your concerns about the proposed AI data center project in Ekron. I want residents to know that I’ve heard their concerns, and I’ve been open and responsive throughout this process. The Fiscal Court has voted down the proposed construction, and the project will not be moving forward as originally planned. I’ve been communicating regularly with community members — especially through local Facebook groups — and I believe we have a good sense of what residents want for our area. Many people have expressed that while they are open to new industries and development, they do not support data centers specifically. Once one data center is approved, it becomes harder to stop additional ones from being built, and I understand those concerns. As your elected representative, I’ll continue to listen to constituents and base my decisions on what is in the best interest of the community. We’ll also keep reviewing other development proposals and gauging public interest to ensure that future projects reflect what residents want for Meade County’s growth and quality of life. Respectfully, Trey Webb Magistrate, District 6 Meade County Fiscal Court
