Stop the Abuse and Discrimination faced Towards African Migrant refugees in Libya
The issue
African refugees living in Libya are facing unimaginable hardship. They are victims of discrimination, sexual abuse, and many other forms of violence. It’s disheartening to know that these situations have become their daily reality.
Refugees International has reported that refugees in Libya, including many Eritreans amongst all African refugees are being imprisoned and subjected to torture and exploitation (Refugees International, 2019 Annual Report). This unacceptable treatment of human beings must come to an end. The persecution these refugees face is in clear breach of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which emphasizes the human rights of refugees and outlines the obligations of states to protect them.
We, the global community, are obliged to raise our voices. We need to urge the Libyan government and international bodies to take immediate action to protect these vulnerable individuals from the ongoing abuse. The world cannot turn a blind eye to this crisis.
This is a plea for humanity. Sign this petition to bring about change and ensure that Eritrean refugees in Libya receive the respect, safety, and dignity they deserve.
