Stop the Abolition of the Marine Corps Military Dogs

Stop the Abolition of the Marine Corps Military Dogs

The Issue

I am a dedicated member of the Jacksonville, NC community with a 20-year background in veterinary medicine. I have had the privilege of working alongside our service members and their K9 partners, witnessing their invaluable contribution to our national defense. However, the current administration tries to abolish the Marine Corps' military dogs due to alleged budget cuts - a detrimental policy that will drastically diminish not only the lives of these devoted dogs but also numerous military roles, such as handlers and veterinarians. The plan to remove these dogs is not just an assault on their lives, but a direct impact on the livelihood of our service members who risk their lives for us on the field. Historically, these trained dogs have played crucial roles in locating bombs, narcotics, and missing persons, with some estimates suggesting they've saved upwards of 150 lives during the war on terror (American Humane, 2020). Moreover, the proposed abolition threatens our veterans' post-military career prospects. Beyond any budgetary consideration, we cannot underestimate these dogs' emotional and psychological value to our troops. We demand immediate action to stop these harmful plans. Sign this petition to demand the government consider the far-reaching implications of their proposal and protect the jobs, lives, and brave service of both our service members and their K9 partners. We stood together as a country to elect Donald Trump who WILL make America great again and now it's time to fix what the previous administration has ruined. It's time to take care of our own, our military.
