Dear Community Members in Union County, NC:

Your help is still needed to show up at the Board of Education Meeting on Wednesday, November 8th at 7:00 pm, wearing red! 

Please let me explain...

This past week has certainly brought notions of relief over the rescinded proposal for the Cell Tower at Rea View Elementary School.  Our coalition immediately turned our attention to what might be next.  Vogue Towers had EVERY school yard in Union County listed on their website.  These were being marketed to carriers by Vogue for development ON ALL OUR SCHOOLS.  The picture included in this message shows the map Vogue had on the company's website.  Keep in mind the company currently has no towers in NC, but apparently has big plans.  

The day after the Facilities Committee met last week, a parent from another community in Tennessee reached out to our coalition.  We were dismayed to hear that with no notice, a tower was placed by Vogue dangerously close to a school in that Tennessee Community.  It was erected in 6 hours.  The zoning permit posted had nothing to do with a cell tower, so no flags were raised prior to the construction.  Vogue Towers has a playbook and it involves targeting schools.  This is not unique to Vogue.  Insert other cell tower development companies into the scenario and the playbook is similar. 

Our coalition has nominated a small group of speakers to advocate for the Board of Education to develop policy on cell tower setbacks from schools.  The FCC is not offering safe guidelines. Tower Development Companies like Vogue certainly don't consider setbacks and will continue to attempt to gain a foothold.  Our School Board needs to be proactive on this issue and protect the students and staff.

We encourage all concerned residents to attend the UCPS Board of Education meeting on November 8th at 7:00pm located at 721 Brewer Drive in Monroe.   WEAR RED and STOP Vogue or any tower development company from being on our school property.  Make our presence undeniable and clear to demonstrate the community's unity, concern. and shared commitment to our children's safety and well-being.
