BIG Week! 160 Letters, 545 Signatures, 3 Newspapers - And we are not done yet!

This week has been a big one for the campaign. We were featured in The Star,  (https://dandenong.starcommunity.com.au/news/2026-09-06/monster-phone-tower-in-dandenong-nths-last-green-space/ and the story was picked up by the Herald Sun and The Leader too (https://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/outer-east/rowville-residents-fight-36m-mobile-tower-planned-for-pristine-nature-reserve/news-story/9a335f4d3ec228b3dc43ba56e2353cfd That kind of coverage matters, it means this isn't just a street of neighbours anymore, it's bigger then us.

We also got the backing of Gabrielle Williams, who wrote directly to Knox Council in support of residents, describing the wetlands as a highly valued community asset and calling for alternative locations to be explored. 

Massive thanks as well to Matthew Kirwan, who has been sharing the campaign on social media and has publicly called on the State Government to stop this "completely inappropriate" development, to Council Watch, who created a brilliant cartoon and shared the Star story with their audience (https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1107716568258803&set=a.298663202497481 and to the Greater Dandenong Environment Group (facebook.com/greaterdandenongenvironmentgroup), who've also been sharing the campaign and do so much for our area.

This week a few of us also door knocked  around 100 houses in Rowville, and we're continuing to talk to politicians and media to keep this top of mind. The first wave of letters is in too, last count we were sitting around 160 objections to Knox Council. That is a strong first mark, but it's exactly that, a first mark, not the finish line.

They were VERY quick to take the two signs down out of the park, and it might feel like this has quietened down or even gone away. It hasn't. The application is still very much alive. We are waiting for official next steps but I will be trying to get Dandenong Council to lodge a formal objection as a council,  there's a meeting coming up the 21st of Sep and it will have to go through that to make it happen. From the Knox side, it looks like it will go back to the planning committee, which means every Knox councillor needs to properly understand what's at stake here before that happens.

So please, don't take your foot off the gas. Keep talking to your friends and neighbours about this. If you haven't written a letter yet, or your partner hasn't there is still time to get it in. The moment we go quiet is the moment this quietly gets waved through.
