Stop the 36-Metre 5G Tower at Tirhatuan Lakes

We're a neighbourhood of people with our own reasons for loving this place. Some of us walk here every day. Some of us moved here for the view. Some of us care about the wildlife along the creek. Some of us are worried about the road. Our reasons are all different, but there's one thing every single one of us agrees on:

We don't want this tower.

There's a plan to put a 36-metre telecommunications lattice tower at the end of Tirhatuan Lakes Golf Course, right beside Dandenong Creek, directly across less then 200m from Surrey Road and the streets around it. This isn't a discreet pole or a rooftop antenna. It's a structure taller than a ten-storey building, and once it's up, it's up for good, changing this park for everyone who uses it.

Some of the reasons this neighbourhood is against it:

It's one of the last local real green spaces we have. Open skies, tall trees, a creek running through the middle. This park belongs to the whole neighbourhood, and a tower of this size changes it for everyone, not just the closest few houses.

It's home to wildlife that doesn't exist just anywhere. Knox Council's own records confirm the Endangered Dwarf Galaxias and the threatened Growling Grass Frog live in this exact stretch of Dandenong Creek. The nearby wetlands support Latham's Snipe, a migratory bird that flies here all the way from Japan under international protection.

Stud Road is already dangerous enough. It was recently named one of the most dangerous roads in the country. This proposal adds a new turn-out and months of construction traffic to that same stretch.

There's already a tower doing this job nearby. A shared tower down the road at Stud Road and Wellington Road already carries three separate carriers on one structure. There's no good reason to build a brand new one here instead add onto that one and use what's already there.

Whatever your reason, if you don't want a 36-metre tower built near the park, this petition is for you.

Knox City Council is deciding on this application right now this Wednesday (P/2026/6008). We need the whole neighbourhood behind this to stop it.
