STOP HUNTINGTON’S PROPOSED SUMMER GAS LEAF BLOWER BAN

Protect Homeowners • Protect Landscapers • Protect Property Rights

The Town of Huntington is considering changes to its leaf blower regulations that would significantly restrict the use of gas-powered leaf blowers between Memorial Day weekend and October 15.

These proposed restrictions would affect both homeowners and commercial landscaping companies.

Why This Matters: The proposed rules could force homeowners and landscaping companies to maintain multiple types of equipment—including battery-powered blowers and the batteries needed to operate them—while also maintaining gas-powered equipment for the limited periods when gas blowers would still be permitted.

This creates a significant additional cost and places an unnecessary burden on homeowners and small landscaping businesses.

What About Spring & Fall Cleanups?

The proposal specifically allows gas-powered blowers during designated spring and fall cleanup periods.

But what happens when a property requires substantial cleanup outside those periods?

Imagine purchasing a home during the summer and discovering that the property has been neglected for months. Or imagine a property becoming severely overgrown with leaves and debris during a period when gas-powered blowers are prohibited.

Should homeowners and landscapers be expected to handle heavy cleanup work exclusively with battery-powered equipment?

That could mean purchasing multiple high-capacity batteries, chargers, and additional equipment simply to perform work that gas-powered equipment can currently accomplish efficiently.

What About Winter?

The proposal also restricts gas-powered leaf blower use from December 24 through February 28.

That raises another practical concern:

What happens when a homeowner or landscaper needs to use a blower to clear a light dusting of snow, debris, or other material from a property?

Under the proposed restrictions, even that type of routine property maintenance could potentially become a violation.

This Is About More Than Leaf Blowers
Homeowners should have reasonable flexibility to maintain their properties.

Commercial landscapers should also be able to use the equipment that allows them to efficiently and professionally perform the work their customers are paying them to do.

A one-size-fits-all prohibition does not account for:

Large properties
Heavy leaf accumulation
Neglected properties
New homeowners taking possession of a property that needs immediate cleanup
Storm debris
Light snow and winter cleanup
The cost of purchasing and maintaining multiple types of equipment
The limitations of battery-powered equipment for large-scale cleanup
WE ARE ASKING THE TOWN OF HUNTINGTON TO RECONSIDER THE SUMMER GAS BLOWER BAN.
We support reasonable noise regulations and responsible property maintenance.

But we believe Huntington should adopt practical regulations that balance neighborhood concerns with the needs of homeowners and local landscaping businesses.

DON’T BAN A TOOL THAT PROPERTY OWNERS AND SMALL BUSINESSES RELY ON.
