A Fair Go for Armadale Residents:

We, the residents, ratepayers, pensioners, families, and business owners of Armadale, strongly oppose the City of Armadale's proposal to increase overall rates revenue by 4.8% for the 2026–27 financial year. This proposed increase is a significant concern for us, as it adds to the already rising tide of living costs that we struggle to meet. The impact of a rate hike of this magnitude cannot be overstated – it affects us all profoundly, from young families to seniors on fixed incomes.

In recent times, Armadale residents have been confronted with escalating costs of living, including essential services such as electricity, water, and groceries. This situation is particularly challenging for those on limited incomes, such as pensioners and low-income families, who bear the brunt of financial stress. Increasing local rates will exacerbate this burden, forcing many to make difficult decisions just to make ends meet.

The City of Armadale justifies this rate increase based on projections from the Local Government Cost Index (LGCI) provided by the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA). While we understand that councils face increasing operational costs, we firmly believe that local government must seek alternative solutions to manage their budgets effectively without placing an undue financial strain on residents.

We call on the City of Armadale to prioritise spending reviews and cost-saving measures. Before asking residents to shoulder additional financial burdens, the City should ensure its expenditures are transparent and necessary. Conducting thorough consultations with the community can also shed light on how funds can be managed more prudently, taking into account the feedback and suggestions of the people they serve.

Furthermore, responsible spending and prioritising essential infrastructure and community services over excessive or non-essential projects can significantly ease financial pressures on the city's budget.

Our message to the City of Armadale is clear: Reconsider the proposed rate hike. Engage with the community in open and transparent consultations. Explore cost-cutting measures and alternative budget strategies that don't unduly impact the residents who call Armadale home.

We need a council that listens, understands, and responds to its community's needs with empathy and responsibility. Let's work together to find a fair solution that supports everyone's well-being without increasing financial hardships.

We urge everyone affected by this proposed rate hike to stand with us. Let's send a strong message to the City of Armadale: Our voices matter. Change can happen when we unite for a common cause.

Please sign this petition to help us stop this rate increase and advocate for a fair and just financial plan for all Armadale residents. Together, we can make a difference.
