Stop taxpayer-funded security for the Sussex family

Stop taxpayer-funded security for the Sussex family
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the ongoing use of UK taxpayer funds to provide security for the Sussex family - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Like many other citizens, I believe that this practice is unfair and unjustified, especially considering that they no longer perform official duties or represent the British Royal Family.
After stepping down from their roles within "The Firm" in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to relocate to the United States and live financially independent lives. They have made it clear through public statements and actions that they wish to distance themselves from royal responsibilities. In doing so, they relieved themselves of the duties and privileges that come with being part of the Royal Family. This shift in status naturally negates their entitlement to taxpayer-funded security.
Despite this clear separation, it has come to light that substantial amounts of public money are still being allocated for their protection. Reports suggest that the cost to UK taxpayers runs into millions of pounds annually, funds that could otherwise be directed towards essential public services such as education, healthcare, and housing. These are resources that should benefit the people who contribute to them, not individuals who no longer carry out royal duties.
Moreover, the precedent of providing lifelong security funded by tax contributions for those who no longer engage in public service is unsustainable and unfair. The British monarchy is a historic institution, funded and supported by the public under the understanding that its members will serve the nation and its interests. Once an individual opts out of this agreement, it is only logical that such financial support ceases.
We must urge the government and responsible authorities to reassess and realign their funding policies concerning the Windsor family, specifically those who are no longer active members. Only security arrangements required for official duties should be funded by the taxpayer. By signing this petition, you will join me in calling for a fair reallocation of public funds and the implementation of a policy that reflects the Sussexes' current role. Sign this petition if you believe in fairness and responsible use of taxpayers' money. It's time for change.
