Galway Crystal has announced that it has ended its support for the cruel greyhound industry.
In a message posted on Facebook today, the company stated: “Following recent reporting on the greyhound industry, Galway Crystal has taken the decision not to sponsor any further Greyhound related events. Galway Crystal Management.”
This is latest major blow to the dying, dog-killing greyhound industry. Galway Crystal was considered one of the industry’s most loyal supporters and a sponsor of the annual Irish Greyhound Board awards. According to a report on the Irish Greyhound Board website last year, the company was "celebrating 11 years of sponsorship".
During the awards ceremony, the company was thanked, with the host commenting: "The brood bitches were the lifeblood of the greyhound world, but as well as that, the sponsors are a fair lifeblood as well. It's great to get somebody so loyal as Galway Crystal." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egxMy7CIqEM&t=2m56s
At the awards, James Callaghan of Galway Crystal received a "recognition award" from the Irish Greyhound Board CEO and Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Andrew Doyle.
Thank you to everyone who contacted Galway Crystal and encouraged them to show compassion and join the growing list of companies disassociating from greyhound racing.
Our attention now turns to the remaining sponsors.
