Last week, California introduced a #StopSuperSpeeders bill becoming the seventh state hoping to require speed limiting technology devices on the vehicles of the most reckless drivers. We have been so inspired by the success of Mothers Against Drunk Driving in their various state-level pushes to expand the use of ignition interlock devices for people who are at high risk for driving drunk. FSS members from across the country like me – who lost children, siblings, parents, spouses or suffered life-altering injuries – are fighting to do the same for the most dangerous drivers requiring that they use Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) technology.
The Virginia House of Delegates and their Senate have moved their bill and it is currently sitting on Governor Youngkin's desk. The bills in Washington State, Maryland, New York, and Arizona are all at varying stages of making their way through their respective legislatures.
If action is not taken soon in Virginia, Washington State, Maryland, and Arizona the bills will fail this year. We only have a few days left and need your help! Please share the petition and urge others to sign on. For residents in these key states, please take a few minutes to reach out to key leadership and urge this life-saving change be made to prevent others suffering as I have.
Virginians:
Contact Governor Youngkin’s office and urge him to sign the bill into law before the March 24th deadline making Virginia the first state in the nation to mandate anti-speeding technologies for the most egregious speeders that disproportionately kill and seriously injure others.
Washingtonians:
Contact the Chair of the Rules Committee, Laurie Jenkins, and urge that the bill be brought to the House for a vote before the deadline of March 12th.
Marylanders:
Contact House of Delegates Speaker Adrianne Jones and urge that she bring the bill for a vote before the March 17th deadline.
Arizonans:
Contact House Speaker Russell "Rusty" Bowers and urge that he bring the bill for a vote in the House. There was a lot of confusion about some recent amendments and the bill did not pass the third reading. We are making sure members understand the changes and need to have it brought for a vote by March 21st.
Thank you!
