Stop Speeding on Oak Drive- Install Speed Calming Measures Now
The Issue
The residents of Oak Drive are deeply concerned about the dangerous speeding that occurs daily on our street.
This residential street is a narrow, unmarked road with no sidewalks or crosswalks. Residents, including children, seniors, and pet owners, are forced to walk directly in the roadway. This creates an extremely hazardous environment when vehicles travel well above the posted 25 mph speed limit—often exceeding 40 mph.
The road contains curves, trees, and bushes that create blind spots, reducing visibility and reaction time for drivers and pedestrians alike.
I have previously requested signage (such as “Slow - Children Playing”), which were promised multiple times but never installed. Regardless of that, signs alone are not enough—especially when drivers already ignore existing speed limit signage.
WE ARE REQUESTING physical traffic-calming measures to slow vehicle speeds and protect those who live and walk here in the form of SPEED BUMPS.
We understand concerns have been raised about emergency response times in regards to speed bumps, but many municipalities have successfully implemented speed-calming infrastructure without significantly impacting emergency services. Meanwhile, our families walking their children, seniors navigating the street face daily risks.
We urge city leadership to prioritize the safety of residents over convenience for speeding vehicles, and call on the town to take meaningful action before someone is seriously injured or worse.
