Stop South Africa's Intention to Reopen International Commercial Trade in Rhino Horns

Stop South Africa's Intention to Reopen International Commercial Trade in Rhino Horns
The Issue
As a passionate supporter of conservation efforts and as a nature enthusiast , the potential rollback of the ban on international commercial trade in rhino horns in South Africa deeply shocks me and many others as well.
All species of rhinos are either endangered or critically endangered and rhino horn poaching has taken an alarming jump in the year 2023. According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, The southern white rhino is considered near threatened, with just over 10,000 individuals remaining in South Africa. Despite strong conservation efforts, the IUCN estimates that their populations are also decreasing. The International Rhino Foundation stated, "Currently, 2,056 black rhinos and 12,968 white rhinos are estimated to remain for a total of more than 15,000". Although efforts are being made to prevent poaching and trophy hunting such as trimming the horns , burning stock piles of rhino horns to prevent illegal trading, and as of recently put radioisotopes to find / devalue the horns .

The Rhino population is at a risk that any small increase ( or any "legal market for rhino horns" as one of the articles states) could damage the conservation efforts of the protected species. Even possibly going on to affect other endangered species as well.
South Africa is home to numerous species of animals. It is also home to the largest population of white rhinos. If we allow this risky move to happen , it will undermine decades of conservation efforts and prove fatal to these magnificent creatures. Let's prioritize our planet's biodiversity and the survival of these extraordinary species over monetary profits. It is our collective responsibility to protect wildlife for the generations who follow us.
With enough support CITES , World Wildlife Fund, Center for Biological Diversity, and the United States Fish and Wildlife can help ensure that this commercial trade reopening never happens. For the sake of rhinos, all protected/endangered species, conservation efforts, and for the sake of biodiversity. Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to the proposed resumption of the international trade in rhino horns in South Africa.
