OUR DEMAND

1. The Sanctuary Coalition is advocating that the sheriff must stop cooperating with ICE, except to comply with a federal warrant signed by a judge. That compliance is all that is required by law. Providing any other information to ICE violates our County ordinance prohibiting that cooperation as well as many other County policies.

1. La Coalición Santuario aboga para que el sheriff del Condado de Sonoma deje de cooperar con ICE, salvo para cumplir con una orden judicial federal firmada por un juez . Dicho cumplimiento es todo lo que exige la ley. Proporcionar cualquier otra información a ICE viola nuestra ordenanza del Condado que prohíbe dicha cooperación, así como muchas otras políticas del Condado.

What is at stake? / ¿Qué está en juego?

The Sonoma County Sheriffs collaboration with ICE makes us LESS SAFE. Immigrant people are less willing to cooperate with law enforcement because they fear exposure to ICE. They won't report crimes, or provide testimony at trials. Spouses may not call for help during a domestic violence incident because they need help but not deportation. People will not access county services or send their children to school because of fear of ICE. This fear affects the mental health of the immigrant community and all of us.

La colaboración de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Sonoma con ICE nos hace MENOS seguros. Las personas inmigrantes están menos dispuestas a cooperar con las autoridades policiales debido al temor de quedar expuestas ante ICE. No denunciarán delitos ni ofrecerán su testimonio en juicios. Los cónyuges podrían abstenerse de pedir ayuda durante un incidente de violencia doméstica, ya que necesitan asistencia, pero no la deportación. Las personas no accederán a los servicios del condado ni enviarán a sus hijos a la escuela por miedo a ICE. Este temor afecta la salud mental de la comunidad inmigrante y la de todos nosotros.

Who Is Affected? / ¿A Quién Afecta?
All residents of Sonoma County — especially immigrants and people of color — are directly impacted by the Trump Administration’s ongoing mass deportation efforts. Sheriff Eddie Engram continues to coordinate with ICE.

Recent violent ICE raids in cities like Chicago and LA have shown that even U.S. citizens of color can be detained without probable cause — solely due to their race,  ethnicity and/or the language they speak. California law (SB54) prohibits most cooperation with ICE, and gives the Sheriff the option to not to cooperate at all except for compliance with a federal judicial warrant.

Todos los residentes del Condado de Sonoma — especialmente inmigrantes y personas de color — están siendo directamente afectadas por los esfuerzos de deportación masiva bajo la administración Trump. El Sheriff Eddie Engram continúa colaborando con ICE, y la Junta de Supervisores se niega a aprobar una ordenanza local que detenga esta colaboración.

Las recientes redadas violentas de ICE en ciudades como Chicago Y Los Angeles han demostrado que incluso ciudadanos estadounidenses de color pueden ser detenidos sin causa probable, únicamente por su raza o etnicidad. La ley de California (SB54) prohíbe la mayoría de las formas de cooperación con ICE y le da al Sheriff la opción excepto en respuesta a una orden judicial federal.

A recent Supreme Court decision has further eroded due process protections and opened the door for legal racial profiling. Now more than ever, we need local governments to resist this trend through purposeful non-collaboration.

Una reciente decisión de la Corte Suprema ha debilitado aún más las protecciones del debido proceso y ha abierto la puerta a la discriminación legal por motivos raciales y étnicos. Ahora más que nunca, necesitamos que los gobiernos locales resistan esta tendencia mediante una no colaboración.
