I do not believe that it is fair for sexual assault of any kind to be referred to as alleged, where as things such as burglary and shop lifting are not. I believe either everything should be labelled as alleged until proven otherwise or nothing should be, until proven otherwise. As this makes the horrible process of coming to the police even harder, and makes victims feel as if they are not believed.
The number of completed rape prosecutions plummeted from 5,190 in 2016-17 to just 2,409 in 2020-21. The numbers of convictions almost halved (2,689 in 2016/17 compared to 1,409 in 2020/21). Only 5% of rapes that were given an outcome by the police in the year ending December 2021 resulted in a charge. The alleged referral only adds to this, to scare victims into not reporting and help the perpetrators get away with their crimes. 
I believe all crimes should be treated as reported, not alleged, or alleged until proven not just sexual offences.
