The Issue

Stop the tragedy! Tibetans must truly unite!

We deeply mourn the sacrifice of our brother Lobga Rangzen. His final appeal, delivered with his life, was for Tibetans to unite and fight for Tibet to the very end. Here, we must clearly state our position: we strongly urge all Tibetan compatriots to cease all self-immolation and other extreme acts. Life is a precious thing that His Holiness the Dalai Lama has repeatedly taught us to cherish, and non-violence is the right path for our long-term struggle. Any action that comes at the cost of life is not the tragedy we want to see.

However, we can no longer deceive ourselves. Lobga Rangzen's first appeal in his last video was for Tibetans to truly unite. It was precisely because he saw corruption, power struggles, and factional strife within us that caused internal disunity—the greatest crisis facing the overseas Tibetan community. Lobga Rangzen truly loved Tibet; he saw these problems but was powerless to change them, leading him to resort to extreme measures to remind Tibetans to unite.

However, the root cause of Tibetan disunity lies in the long-term serious inaction of the Central Tibetan Administration under the leadership of Pema Tsering! They are preoccupied with performing politics under the international spotlight, attending one high-profile meeting after another, and crafting so-called "political achievements," while completely neglecting the basic livelihood needs of the vast Tibetan population outside Dharamshala. Whether in New York, London, or other Tibetan communities, the economic pressures we face daily, the difficulties in cultural transmission, the identity crisis of the younger generation… these most real and pressing issues have long been selectively ignored by the Central Tibetan Administration. They are busy with power struggles and maintaining a facade of prestige, but have failed to truly unite the people and resolve grassroots conflicts. The result? Constant infighting, erosion of trust, and dissipation of power. How many grassroots Tibetans feel disappointed and abandoned, leading them to despair and extreme measures?

We firmly support His Holiness the Dalai Lama's principles of non-violence and democratic spirit! Therefore, we have an even greater responsibility to speak out: a leader who cannot effectively unite overseas Tibetans and truly respond to the demands of the grassroots is derelict in his duty! It is time to wake up. Stop the internal strife, stop the superficial performances focused solely on the stage. The Central Tibetan Administration must truly listen to the voices of overseas Tibetans and take concrete actions to solve problems; otherwise, the tragedy will only continue to repeat itself. Lobga's blood must not have been shed in vain. True commemoration means uniting Tibetans, starting from the grassroots, and beginning with change!
