Stop ruining Harvest Hills! Say NO to development at our backyard, our precious greenspace

Stop ruining Harvest Hills! Say NO to development at our backyard, our precious greenspace
The Issue
The City of Calgary is currently reviewing a proposal to change the land use of the greenspace behind the Harvest Hills. This greenspace, which is adjacent to the train tracks, has been targeted for development with plans to build over 100 housing units. As residents of these communities, we are deeply concerned about the abrupt nature of this proposal.
Despite its far-reaching implications, this proposal emerged without any consultation or communication with the homeowners who would be directly affected by these changes. It is both outrageous and unacceptable that a decision of this magnitude could progress without including the voices of those it impacts.
If this proposal is approved, the development would not only disrupt the existing tranquillity of our neighbourhood but also:
🚗 Increase traffic congestion, straining existing infrastructure that is not equipped to handle such an influx.
🌿 Lead to the loss of precious greenspace, adversely affecting local biodiversity and the character of our community.
🏠 Result in the overcrowding of the area, impacting the quality of life for existing residents.
🌧️ Amplify surface water runoff issues, especially during Calgary's frequent rain events, potentially leading to increased flooding risks.
👨👩👧👦 Undermine the community's social fabric and could lead to higher property taxes, further burdening homeowners.
Our Position
We, the undersigned residents of Harvest Hills and nearby communities:
Oppose the current development proposal for this greenspace.
Urge the City of Calgary to change the land use designation of this property to S-R (Special Purpose – School, Park, and Community Reserve District) or S-UN (Special Purpose – Urban Nature District) in order to permanently protect this valuable greenspace for the benefit of residents and future generations.
Demand that the City conduct a comprehensive impact assessment and engage in transparent dialogue with our community before considering any further changes.
