Good Morning Fellow Residents, Shop Patrons and Petition Supporters
This is my email to Transport for NSW (RMS) Project team looking after the plans for the Proposed Right Turn in and Out Lane Closure>
I am yet to receive a reply other than this has been referred to the Senior Project Manager.
Good Morning Project Team
I am writing to you to advise that since your Media Announcement on the 13th May 2020 advising that RMS / Transport of NSW is proceeding with the Extension of Hoxton Park Road with the original Plans unchanged having ignored the hundreds of people who signed a Group Objection letter in October 2019 and the many submissions from Residents, Business Owners, the Federal and State MP and local council there has been a lot of opposition raised to these plans proceeding.
Let me summarise some of what has happened since and I hope that you will reassess your plans for Hoxton Park Road and the proposed closure of the Right Turn in and Out Lanes at Dorrigo Ave which would reduce access to the Shops, Community Health Centre and Local Scout hall.
1) A Paper Petition has been started objecting to the Closure of the Turning Lanes and asking the Minister for Transport to overturn the decision to proceed with the current plans. In three weeks over 1000 signatures have been collected and will be provided to Paul Lynch MP for Liverpool to be lodged in Parliament.
2) An Article was published in the Liverpool Leader - "Hoxton Park Road bus lane upgrade set to go ahead despite concerns". You can read it in the link below
https://www.change.org/p/andrew-constance-minister-for-transport-stop-rms-closing-the-right-turn-in-and-out-lanes-at-hoxton-park-shops/u/26802980
3) An Article was Published in the South West Voice with Support coming from Federal MP Anne Stanley, Liverpool MP Paul Lynch and Cr Nathan Hagarty.
4) There was a Notice of Motion approved by Liverpool Council at its May 2020 meeting That Council:
· reaffirms its strong commitment to the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) project;
· notes plans for the FAST project are well advanced;
· notes rapid bus services from Liverpool to Western Sydney Airport (WSA) are a key deliverable of the Western Sydney City Deal;
· the route for rapid bus services from Liverpool to WSA will likely involve the FAST corridor;
· notes its preference for centre running transit lanes along the entirety of the FAST corridor;
· notes the upgrade of Hoxton Park Road will have a major impact on Hoxton Park Shopping Centre and surrounding residents; and
· continue to make representations to Transport for New South Wales in regards to the upgrade of Hoxton Park Road.
5) Paul Lynch MP for Liverpool has shown his support by asking a question and by making a speech about this issue in Parliament. You can read the transcript in this update
6) An Online Petition to Andrew Constance the Minister for Transport was started and currently has over 850 Online Supporters. www.change.org/SupportHoxtonParkShops
7) It is noted that the reason given for the proposed closure of the turning lanes is Safety.
If that is the case then will RMS close ALL the right turn lanes across 3 lanes of traffic in the Liverpool area. I am aware of at least half a dozen examples on both the Hume Highway and Elizabeth Drive that are much busier roads with right turns permitted across 3 lanes of traffic.
This is just the beginning of action that the Community has taken to oppose these plans that you are attempting to impose, without taking into account the views of our Community.
We ask that you reconsider your plans and leave the right Turn Lanes in and out of Dorrigo Ave OPEN. The Community want them to remain OPEN as they have been for years.
This Community campaign will only grow in opposition to your proposed plans.
I look forward to you reviewing your position on your current plans and to your reply.
Yours Sincerely
