Stop rezoning of residential parcel a business is using illegally and stop their operation

The Issue

Public hearing is May 15, 2023 @ 6 p.m.

Gossett Concrete Pipe Company (GCPC) purchased alot of land and rezoned some to expand their company, which manufacturers concrete pipe. They clear cut alot of old growth trees that helped buffer noise from nearby train tracks and helped filter the air. In place of the trees, they erected a metal facility, which amplifies sound. In addition to the building, they erected noisy equipment that produces both particulate and fine pollutants. Concrete dust, sand and gravel are known to have lung irritants and cancer causing agents. And GCPC did this on a parcel that was zoned for residential. When the noise and partical pollution was brought to their attention, GCPC acted in much the same way a neighborhood bully might. They pretty much ignored pleas and flexed their figurative muscles. They start noisy work as early as 5:30 a.m. and continue to 5 p.m. or so, Mondays through Fridays, and also many Saturdays with varied hours. Employees have even been spotted on the premises on the occasional Sunday, though very rare. Imagine forklift safety sounds and dropping heavy concrete that can shake the ground, the dropping of metal rebar, welding, loud music with vibratory bass, and foul language at anytime of the day, but especially before 6 a.m. These things happen every day of their operation. Imagine washing a car only to have it covered in dust a few hours later or wanting to sit outside on a bench and it being covered in dust. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, GCPC has been operating on this parcel and negatively impacting the neighborhood, which is historically economically-challenged with a diverse group of residents, all the while ignoring the pleading and complaints of their neighbors. Now that they've been caught operating an industrial business on a residential parcel, they are pushing for rezoning to continue operations. They've gotten away with a lot, affecting health, home enjoyment and property values. Please sign this petition to oppose the rezoning of 1008 W. Lee Rd. in Greenville County, South Carolina. Let Greenville County Council know that residents want their health and interests protected and that the business should comply with the existing zoning and laws. It doesn't take an impact study to see the negative impact on the neighborhood. Now is the opportunity to take steps to improve the area again by opposing the rezoning. Please take a moment to sign the petition and help the neighborhood, so residents can enjoy spending time outside again without worrying about breathing the concrete dust and hearing all the noise. Folks that suffer from asthma, allergies and other lung issues and those who suffer from sensitive hearing such as those with autism and other special needs, need your signature. Hardworking people who need good sleep and rest to restore themselves, and children who want to enjoy playing in their yards, need your signature. If the rezoning is approved, the conditions will only get worse. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please sign the petition now to oppose the rezoning.
