Stop Redundancies At Sheffield Hallam University

Stop Redundancies At Sheffield Hallam University
The Issue
Sheffield Hallam Against Cuts (a student-led anti-cuts organisation) are calling for NO redundancies at Sheffield Hallam University.
Sheffield Hallam University Senior Management is pressing ahead with major staff redundancies, putting modules, courses, student support, and the future of the university at risk.
The proposed cuts could see up to:
-
45% of Law senior lecturers
-
25% of Criminology senior lecturers
-
15% of Sport and Physical Activity senior lecturers
lose their jobs.
These are not isolated measures. Cuts are being proposed right across the university, including in the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute and the School of Engineering and Built Environment. This is in addition to over 1,200 staff already lost through successive cuts in recent years.
In this round of cuts, SHU Collegiate Nursery is set to close and a raft of catering outlets will shut.
The cuts must stop now!
We oppose compulsory redundancies and any pressure on staff to leave ‘voluntarily’ under the threat of compulsory redundancy.
These cuts will damage teaching quality, student experience, SHU's research prospects, and they threaten to cause irreparable reputational damage to Sheffield Hallam University.
Sheffield Hallam Against Cuts (SHAC) is founded by SHU students and is supported by Hallam Students’ Union and its student-mandated “No Cuts” campaign.
SHAC calls on the University Executive Board to:
👉 Halt all redundancies
👉 Rule out compulsory job losses
👉 Work with students to ensure their needs are prioritised
👉 Protect staff jobs instead of costly estate projects & the London campus
