The issue

The rising cost of living is a burden many of us are struggling to cope with. As a resident of Redland City, I am deeply concerned about the proposed rate increase by the Redland City Council. For families like mine, this change threatens to push us further into poverty and financial hardship. It's not just a number on a bill; it’s a threat to our livelihoods.

In an era where every dollar counts, squeezing residents with higher rates is unfair and damaging. Many of us are already making difficult choices just to keep a roof over our heads and maintain a decent quality of life. An increase in rates will only amplify these challenges, leading to dire consequences for the community, including increased stress, potential homelessness, and worsening mental health crises.

The Council must focus on financial responsibility and efficiency before passing additional costs onto its residents. There are viable alternatives to generating revenue without resorting to rate hikes. For example, the Council could consider cutting unnecessary administrative expenses, investing in sustainable projects that offer long-term savings, or partnering with local businesses for community-driven initiatives.

By signing this petition, we urge the Redland City Council to think of their constituents.
